The MBS Cup Time Trial series is coming to a wrap with this evening’s race.

If you haven’t tried it yet, come out for the challenge of a 17km all out effort. If you’ve tried it already, come see if you can top your last race’s pace.

Hope the rain holds off again this week and we have another great turn out. See you there!

There will be one week off in the series before moving to the next discipline - which is slated to be Track. However, the Velodrome is under renovations so we’ll keep you posted - it may be Road Criterium instead.

It’s that time of the month again! The last Friday of each month there is a Critical Mass Ride that departs from City Hall at 5:30pm.

What is Critical Mass you might ask?

It’s a gathering of cyclists from all walks of life, experience, ability and interest that meet together for a fun ride around the streets of Moncton to help raise community support and awareness for cycling. It’s a fun time!

Come out and show the City how much you love cycling!

Just a reminder that the Velo NB mountain bike event takes place THIS Sunday at the St-Anselme Rotary Park in Dieppe. There are two stages to the event, a dirt Time Trial (starting at 11am) and a Short Track race (starting at 2pm). There is also a youth event happening between these two events.

For more info check the full post in the events category in the TOPICS sidebar.

It is sure to be a fun time, hope to see you out there!

There will be a mountain bike ride to Hillsborough departing from the Petro Canada on Hillsborough Road (in Riverview on the 114) at 4pm Friday, June 26th.

We’ll meet at the Petro and see what type of car pooling we can do to Hillsborough.

The ride will be about 1.5 - 2 hours.

Bring lots of water, some snacks and BUCKETS of bug spray! See you then

Please post a comment if you’re planning to attend so we know who to wait for at the Petro, Thanks! There are four confirmed by word of mouth already!

.

How about a 6pm road ride Thursday! But how about something of a different route? Here are a few options -

ATurtle Creek / Colpitts / Coverdale loop - 49km - (we’d start from the Riverview Mall parking lot)

BHomestead / 880 / Scott / Fredericton Rd loop - 59km (we’d start from Magnetic Hill McDonalds parking lot). This loop could be shortened by about 7-8km if we wanted as well but turning back onto the Homestead road (at the 30ish km point instead of going down south of the Trans Canada into Salisbury and back up).

Cast your votes with a comment. Both rides are light on traffic and have rolling hills throughout, each also has one or two nice climbs as well. Chosen loop will be posted by 4pm.

Remember, it’s going to by HUMID so the pace will be moderate and bring lots of water and a snack

As far as I can tell on Monday night the MBS Cup Time Trial is still set to roll rain or shine Tuesday.

Registration can done in advance at the www.atlanticcyclingcenter.com website, or in person at the race site by 6pm. Racers start departing at 6:30pm.

Please leave a comment if you plan on participating Tuesday evening. We had a great Fitworks presence last week, it would be great to see you all out again this time around too!

All those long training miles and hard sprints making you tight and stiff? Why not relax and soothe those sore muscles with a good massage?

If you don’t have a massage therapist already, we’d like to suggest Active Therapy Clinic. Sonia Picard and Nena Kennedy are both registered RMTs and have ample experience with cyclists and athletes. They are located at 298 Mill Road (just off Elmwood Drive), 389-9152

Nena has kindly provided Fitworks for Girls with an article highlighting the benefits of massage for cyclists. Click HERE to visit the article.

Here’s a little background on Nena:

“Having been a member of various sports teams and seeing her teammates sidelined with injuries she took an interest in sports therapy and rehabilitation.  Nena studied kinesiology at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton and worked with the varsity women’s hockey team for a season.  She accumulated a lot of experience working with a team, preparing athletes’ for games and treating injuries.  After completing her BScKin, Nena went on the study massage therapy at the Atlantic College of Therapeutic Massage, also in Fredericton.  During her studies at ACTM, Nena spent many hours working with varsity and recreational athletes and completed her certification in sports massage.  For the past two years Nena has been working in Moncton at Active Therapy Clinic as a registered massage therapist and she is an instructor and clinic supervisor at the College Atlantique de Massage Therapeutique in Dieppe.  She has volunteered at the CIS men’s hockey championships and national squash championships in Moncton over the past two years.  She has also worked with the Universite de Moncton’s women’s volleyball and men’s hockey teams and with national cyclists and paracyclists at several tours and training camps. Working with athletes is her passion and she could not see herself doing anything else!”

Thursday we head to the hills! Road ride leaving from McArthur’s Nursery parking lot on McLaughlin at 6pm. This will be an approximate 48km challenging hilly loop!

The route: We’ll travel up the gradual grade of McLaughlin to our first climb, just after Ammon Road. We’ll have time to recover along Indian Mountain Road until we dip down and back up Crossman Hills Road, then cruise part way down the Gorge Road where we’ll take a right turn onto Front Mountain Road (just above the zoo and concert site). The next hill will be up Whitfield Trites Road, with recovery along Brigg’s Cross Road before heading back up the Gorge Road. We’ll double back onto Crossman Hills, Indian Mountain and McLaughlin to complete the loop.

For more info on the route, click the map link HERE.

Please post a comment if you are planning to attend so we know how many to anticipate, thanks!

If the forecast isn’t correct and we don’t get the thundershowers this afternoon there will be an approximate 52 km road ride Wednesday. The ride will start from the Moncton Coliseum parking lot at 6pm sharp.

Please check back to confirm the ride due to weather.

The ride will go up Berry Mills Road, Ryan Road, Homestead Road to the Salisbury Big Stop, down into Salisbury and back via the Upper Mountain Road, Homestead and Berry Mills.

For more info on the route click the map link HERE. The route has a few long gradual hills, one good downhill and another really challenging uphill. Average pace around 25km / hour.

Bring lots of water (humidex anticipated to be 29 degrees), snacks and a few bucks if you wanted to stop at the Big Stop for a top up.

Please post a comment if you are planning on attending so we know how many to anticipate, thanks!
